Catalan – Cornelius

Gracing the airwaves again is Catalan, the new-ish project by Axis Of bassist Ewen Friers. We spoke to Ewen  last July, where he gave us the low-down on his new venture, and featured them here with the jaunty pop-rock of Alive.

Catalan! – Alive

You may remember back in the sunny days of July, we had a feature and interview with a certain Mr Ewen Friers, aka Catalan! talking all about the creation of the project, hopes for the future, collaborations and whether he’s a Dr Ian Malcolm or David Levinson kind of guy.

Ewen Friers talks CATALAN! Axis Of, Travelling and avoiding Love Island!

Those of you may remember from last year a feature on Axis Of, celebrating the release of their most recent live album, Companions. Whilst the band have been quiet of late, things have been bubbling below the surface for one of their members, bassist Ewen Friers, who is currently working on a new project, titled CATALAN!

Axis Of – Companions (live album launch)

This Portstewart trio have gone from big riff to even bigger riff; The Mid Brae Inn, their second album was No.5 in Keep It Fast’s top albums of 2015 (and rightly so, it’s an absolute stonker!). What next? Having toured incessantly through 2015, Axis Of have decided to release Companions, their first live album, made up of a selection of choice (and in some places raw and rough) cuts from The Mid Brae Inn tour.

Lizard Hips’ Top 10 Albums of 2015

Another bloody year. It looks like end of year lists are being rattled out now, so best to jump on that bandwagon and rank a load of records I’ve listened to in some sort of order of preference. In all seriousness, it’s been another fantastic year – some proper agonising decisions about what to keep in and what to leave out. It hasn’t been easy let me tell you. Read on….

Keep It Fast’s best songs of 2015…so far.

Greetings person or persons that stare at the screen. Welcome to Keep It Fast’s best songs of 2015…so far. Here’s 20 or so to kick you off, featuring: Torche! KEN Mode! Hawk Eyes! En Garde! METZ! No Spill Blood! We Never Learned To Live! Axis Of! Disasterpeace! And So I Watch You From Afar! Brawlers! Faith No More! Adventures! And more!

Axis Of – The Mid Brae Inn

When Axis Of first burst on to the scene, they threw so many curve balls it was difficult to know exactly what or where their sound was going. Their debut album; the pulverising bruise that is Finding St. Kilda sounds like Florida dirt-merchants Torche exchanging the boom string for three chords and more amp-jumping.

Guest Post: Jack Murray’s Top 10 Albums of 2013

Guest post alert! Last year, Jack Murray of Bedfordshire’s finest Ratpigeon, gave us his top 10 of 2012, so it only feels right he should give us his top 10 albums of this year as well – what a guy.

2013 will soon be done, but again, it’s been ridiculously brilliant year for new releases, new bands, new discoveries and long-awaited comebacks. So, before getting ruined on homebrew, eating mince pies and shouting at the TV because the BBC haven’t played Jurassic Park yet, here’s a run down of my top 10 albums of 2013.
