It’s brilliant to have Girl Band back on the airwaves – Salmon of Knowledge is the third track to be released from the anticipated The Talkies, out 27 September.
Girl Band – In Plastic
It seems Girl Band have been a bit quiet of late. I know from their somewhat sporadic updates that there’s been a few health problems in the Dublin camp, (cancelled shows) but it would seem things are getting back on track now, which is excellent news. In Plastic is the next single from the acclaimed, food-obsessed 2015 debut, Holding Hands With Jamie. Yes, it’s once again directed by Bob Gallagher
Girl Band – Holding Hands With Jamie
If you’ve been familiar with Girl Band’s work – any similarities to their France 98 EP of 2013 have been taken outside and fed through a wood chipper. Holding Hands With Jamie takes things a step too far and keeps going, laughing maniacally, trailing a huge splatter of gasoline behind it, whilst repeatedly trying to get a spark from a lighter.
Girl Band – De Bom Bom 7″
The opening guitar-scrape on De Bom Bom is a crackling, guttural distort and feels more in common with the industrial pound and stuttering electronica of Black Dice or the bonkers psychosis of The Assdroids.
Hollow Truth – Prometheus Bound
Dublin-based ‘Bray Area Thrashers’ Hollow Truth cite Suicidal Tendencies, Cro-Mags and Slayer as their main influences, all of which shine through clearly on this neat little two-tracker of thrash punk.
Girl Band – France 98
Girl Band hail from Dublin and ‘France 98’ is a sinister and warped trail of distortion, disapproving sneers and the middle finger. I like how uncomfortably ominous each track sounds. From the cacophony of snarling guitars that make up opener ‘You’re A Dog’ to the frantic barrage of quick-fire strumming of the speed-punk title track
