It’s brilliant to have Girl Band back on the airwaves – Salmon of Knowledge is the third track to be released from the anticipated The Talkies, out 27 September.
THANK – Sexghost Hellscape
This is a Hieronymus Bosch painting in musical form that’s started to melt into a sickening puddle of smoldering wax, wires and decay. Subjecting yourself for more than 20 minutes of this will send you fucking insane. Boiling, bubbling, mutated flesh, that’s where we’re coming from. I feel sick.
Girl Band – In Plastic
It seems Girl Band have been a bit quiet of late. I know from their somewhat sporadic updates that there’s been a few health problems in the Dublin camp, (cancelled shows) but it would seem things are getting back on track now, which is excellent news. In Plastic is the next single from the acclaimed, food-obsessed 2015 debut, Holding Hands With Jamie. Yes, it’s once again directed by Bob Gallagher
Lizard Hips’ Top 10 Albums of 2015
Another bloody year. It looks like end of year lists are being rattled out now, so best to jump on that bandwagon and rank a load of records I’ve listened to in some sort of order of preference. In all seriousness, it’s been another fantastic year – some proper agonising decisions about what to keep in and what to leave out. It hasn’t been easy let me tell you. Read on….
Girl Band – Holding Hands With Jamie
If you’ve been familiar with Girl Band’s work – any similarities to their France 98 EP of 2013 have been taken outside and fed through a wood chipper. Holding Hands With Jamie takes things a step too far and keeps going, laughing maniacally, trailing a huge splatter of gasoline behind it, whilst repeatedly trying to get a spark from a lighter.
Girl Band – Paul
Popular Irish beat combo* Girl Band have been busy it seems. You know the life of a band, bit of touring, bit of album recording, holding a giant Shania Twain poster – the usual. They’ve also made another video (directed and produced by Bob Gallagher, who made the video for their Blawan cover, check it out) and it’s super weird.
Girl Band – De Bom Bom 7″
The opening guitar-scrape on De Bom Bom is a crackling, guttural distort and feels more in common with the industrial pound and stuttering electronica of Black Dice or the bonkers psychosis of The Assdroids.
Brody Dalle/Darko/Girl Band – singles round-up
Rounding up the latest and new tracks that have hit my ears this week. Mrs Homme returns, whilst punk rockers Darko unintentionally reference Arrested Development and Girl Band throw another curve-ball of musical weirdness.
Girl Band – Lawman 7″
Hey everyone, Girl Band are back! Remember France 98, the great mini-album/EP thing they released at the beginning of last year? Well, they’ve only gone and recorded another song! Whatever the fuck is going on during Lawman, I have no clue, but Girl Band know and that malevolent, curled-lip sneer that is present during the full 6 minutes and 13 seconds of this unique sound could strip paint.
