Liminal by Entropy could well be the sleeper hit of the year. It’s a gold mine of huge, expansive, emotive post-hardcore with killer metallic riffs and soaring vocals.
Spielbergs -This Is Not The End
Norway’s Spielbergs are an interesting prospect. Their debut album, This Is Not The End, is an odd beast – with its The Hotelier meets American Football album cover
Yagow – S/T
Yagow are a vortex of sound with one goal in mind – absorbing and claiming everything within reach. This is best demonstrated on the mammoth 8 minute opener, Horsehead Nebula; a pulsating beast of hazy, cryptic guitar layers, see-sawing riffs and the kind of sprawling post-rock scuzz of journeying into the centre of a star that’s about to explode.
Lonely The Brave – Things Will Matter
There are moments when music really does touch you. That burning, emotional rush that feels like it will engulf you in its flames. Lonely The Brave live these moments every time they pick up their collective instruments and no-one more so than vocalist David Jakes, a man, who is beginning to emerge from his chrysalis. Hell, he stood at the front – the FRONT of the stage last time I saw them.
DTHPDL – The Future
‘Gin and Swearing’ is listed as the genre for DTHPDL’s new EP, The Future. We’re off to a strong start and I haven’t even pressed play yet. DTHPDL (pronounced ‘Deathpodal’) is four-piece band from Edinburgh, started by frontman Alistair J Chivers, with the help from D. MacDonald, Humdrum Jetset and Ross Taylor (on this recording).
