On Life Cinema, USA Nails continue to hack, carve and flesh out this ghastly totem of their acerbic and unique sound.
My top 2 will not surprise some people and it’s mostly business as usual. Some returning bands and truly outstanding work all round from nearly everyone that’s released an album this year that I’ve enjoyed. Even albums that didn’t make the top ten (sorry Pissed Jeans, you’re in at 11…) were stonking great. Enjoy.
Immersing themselves almost completely in a different spectrum of reality, USA Nails (the family fun time band from London – as they like to call themselves) seem content to continue morphing into a magic eye picture of warped insanity. The Swami-guitar lines of their debut have all been erased; washed in a sea of sludge.
On Ampwrecked this month: KEN Mode discuss marriage, Sleigh Bells write a delightful pop ditty, USA Nails do stuff to their oven, Okilly Dokilly enjoy a nice drink, Mr Velocity Hopkins go to a party, Japandroids punch hearts, Stan Bush draws his sword and Whores leap around wearing black t-shirts. Yep. Enjoy.
Another bloody year. It looks like end of year lists are being rattled out now, so best to jump on that bandwagon and rank a load of records I’ve listened to in some sort of order of preference. In all seriousness, it’s been another fantastic year – some proper agonising decisions about what to keep in and what to leave out. It hasn’t been easy let me tell you. Read on….
The bile that races through the veins of Leeds’ Blacklisters is flecked with hundreds and thousands made out of spite and toxic laughter. Their concept of anything vaguely normal is an utterly redundant feeling – sounding like they’ve set fire to their instruments before they’ve started playing them..
