Kestrels are the heart and soul of frontman Chad Peck and Dream Or Don’t Dream is an album that brims with want, longing, emotion and fuzzing riffs
DTHPDL – The Future
‘Gin and Swearing’ is listed as the genre for DTHPDL’s new EP, The Future. We’re off to a strong start and I haven’t even pressed play yet. DTHPDL (pronounced ‘Deathpodal’) is four-piece band from Edinburgh, started by frontman Alistair J Chivers, with the help from D. MacDonald, Humdrum Jetset and Ross Taylor (on this recording).
Brawlers – Romantic Errors Of Our Youth
An autobiographical streak runs through Brawlers’ sound – from the brisk story-telling of Annabel to the girl-chasing bounce of Two Minutes and the drunken bar room chant of the album’s title track, hearts are very much being held up to your face, with the bloody viscera dripping all down your front.
Anakin – Celestial Frequency Shifter
You could be forgiven for becoming lost within this – Anakin (a four piece from San Diego, who have an obvious love of all things lightsaber and Millennium Falcon) create a world with their sound that will envelop you, should you stumble your way into its enigmatic universe.
Brawlers – I Am A Worthless Piece Of Shit
It’s scary how some things enter your consciousness so quickly. After only 2 playthroughs, the superbly titled I Am A Worthless Piece Of Shit has set up a permanent shop inside my head and is proving difficult to budge. Not that you’d want to, because this is fucking brilliant; from the jerking pop-rock of Mothers and Fathers to the anthemic rant-a-thon of the EP title track, this is an absolute blast from start to finish.
Dinosaur Pile-Up – Nature Nurture
Dinosaur Pile-Up bury the notion of ‘difficult second album’ syndrome on Nature Nurture whilst attempting to french-kiss Weezer at the same time. Green Album-era fans apply within.
